Wrinkle and scar filling

Wrinkles and lines: Tissue fillers can be injected under the skin to fill out wrinkles and lines, add volume to certain areas of the face and help where there is sagging with age.

Scars: Filler can be very effective in lifting a scar that is indented, like acne marks or a long scar that has a sunken-in area.

As you age, you start to lose bone volume, fat, collagen and Hyaluronic Acid in the face. This causes the skin to lose structure and volume. Fillers are used under the skin to lift the lines. Hyaluronic acid is a crystal-clear gel which is injected under the skin and has the ability to hold water, hydrating and giving volume to the skin, plumping wrinkles or scars out. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that occurs naturally in the body.

Tissue fillers plump up and fill the existing wrinkles or add volume where needed.

BOTOX/Dysport paralyses the small muscle that it is injected into, stopping the muscle contractions that cause the lines and wrinkles. This releases the wrinkles and stops them from forming in the future.

To summarise: Tissue fillers give volume where injected, whereas Botox/Dysport takes away function of muscles.

  • Superficial lines and wrinkles in the face
  • Grooves like the naso-labial folds running from the nose to each side of the mouth
  • Lines around the mouth and on the top lip (commonly referred to as “smoker’s lines)
  • Acne scars, deep cuts, chicken pox scars, etc.
  • Circles under the eyes
  • Facial hollows like the temple area, the malar fat pads or the pre-auricular area
  • Facial remodelling – the cheeks can be lifted, the projection of chincan be altered (to appear bigger or smaller),the jaw line can be better defined
  • Non-surgical rhinoplasty (re-shaping of the nose)
  • Results are seen instantly, but the full effect can take up to one month to show.

The gel fillers last for approximately 9-18 months, depending on the area injected and the type of filler used.

Many people find that they need no anaesthetic for most areas. A local anaesthetic can be used, depending on the area.

The beauty of this procedure is that most patients can return to work immediately after the treatment, although redness, slight swelling and numbness may be present.

Slight bruising may occur, but this should disappear after a few days. A little redness may also occur but can easily be covered with make-up.
