Thread-lifting

PDO Threading is a technique which is used to lift and tighten sagging skin in the cheeks, jowls and neck or to strengthen the contour of the face and reduce roundness.

The threads are introduced into the area and they then form a support structure for the tissue of the face.

There is physical tightening of the area with the thread, lifting the area.

Collagen synthesis occurs around the threads over the next few months, firming the skin and the underlying tissues.

There is an immediate result, but the lifting effect is at its peak 4-6 months later, when collagen has formed around the threads.

  • Sagging mid- and lower face
  • Sagging cheeks
  • Nose to mouth folds
  • Jawline
  • Visible jowls
  • Loose skin on neck

Local anaesthetic is injected into the treatment area.

The PDO thread is introduced into the area needing lifting, using a hollow micro-needle with the thread inside it. Once in position the hollow needle is removed, leaving the thread behind. The thread is tightened as required, grasping onto the deeper layers of the droopy skin and soft tissue, to reposition the skin and give the required lift to the area.

This requires no cuts or incisions and no scarring. It’s purely done by inserting the needle.

Depending on the desired effect of the lift, few to several threads will be used.

Aside from the physical lifting and tightening due to the thread, there is tightening and skin rejuvenation from the natural wound healing process over the next few months.

The procedure will take around about 30-60 minutes, depending on what treatment you require.

The threads are made of a material called PDO – or Polydioxanone, a clinically proven bio-compatible and bio-degradable material that is widely used in medical suturing.

PDO Thread Lifting can be done alone or in combination with other treatments to deliver optimal results. It is commonly combined with dermal fillers, Botox/Dysport injections, micro-needling, peels, etc.

There is an immediate improvement seen after the treatment, with a visible lift in the areas treated. This will improve over a period of 2-6 months as new collagen grows between the threads and gives a further lift and tightening to the skin.

The PDO threads gradually dissolve over 8-18 months but the resulting lift can last between 2-3 years

You should be able to fully resume your everyday routine and social commitments after a few days, although at times there may be visible bruising.

Note that there is also a chance of small areas puckering for a few days to weeks after the treatment. This will settle with time, but may be visible at first.

Avoid lying directly on the threaded area for two weeks. Staff will guide you on how to achieve this.
